I don't know if this is what you meant, but I immediately thought of Katrina. To paraphrase what Bill Maher said about it, yes, we can get halfway around the world in a matter of hours to deal with other country's tragedies or governmental snafus but can't get to our own in not hours, but days. It's a good question, and one that should be asked more often.

I don't believe our country (the citizenry) is very anxious to go to war. I believe the are ready to take care of their people in time of tragedy. It's not always easy to do so, because, how hard we try to prepare, tragedy gives no warning.

Because a military defense is mandated in the US constitution as being the responsibility of the federal government.

There is no such provision that requires the federal government to take care of people in times of tragedy. That is the purview and responsibility of charitable organizations, such as the Red Cross.

The Constitution required Conrgess to establish and maintain a standing army. So, we are always prepared for war, even when no war is being fought or considered.

There is no Constitutional requirement for, say, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), or for national healthcare or any other releif or supoprt agency.

Still, our people are mostly prosperous, and very generous to those in need.

You need to site your sources because you are 100% wrong on both accounts.

1- We already are at war.

2 - Bush's policies have funded more charitable causes than any other President in history.

This quetion is by far bias,The United States one of the world powers has built itself as a reputation of humanitarion nation and it really shows by ordinary citizens uniting together and taking care of itself in time of crisis. Our society and culture deems itself to run to those in need no matter where on the globe that may be to make the world a better place. Some may not beleive in specifics of our governments decisions but thats what made america what is is today,we do take care or ourselfs by just being ordinary citizens having that united state of mind. Just ask any soldier that comes home from iraq(myself being one) that has seen the devistating humanitarion conditions and he would tell you as myself iam proud to serve my country. I think the world depends on us and we have to oblige

It's not the job of the government to take care of anyone. It's job is to keep us safe from known threats.
