I asked something similar last night. Here's the deal. I rarely use this bathtub shower and it was working a year ago. In the summer I noticed only cold water was coming out of the faucet. I tested it again yesterday....same thing and I let it run for a long time, if I put it all the way on hot, the water pressure goes down significantly and you can barely feel luke warm water....Is this a simple fix? How?

Okay the first answer was close....the second answer is talking about a completely different valve (Delta) I'm betting that this is a single handle valve......It's a scald guard valve.....it's designed to keep little kids from turning the water all the way to hot and burning themselves...you have to take the handle off and adjust the little plastic piece so that your handle will turn further and you will get hot water......you may be able to figure this out on your own but then again you may need to call a plumber......you dont have to turn the water off to the house if all your taking off is the handle....good luck

Go to the hardware store and by a valve rebuild kit.

What happens is that your handle operates a ball with holes in it. To make the valve work there is little round springs that hold a rubber gasket tight against this ball in the middle of this is the water pressure, the water comes out of the plumbing into this ball and then on to the spigot. I believe what has happened in your case is the rubber seal has gotten stuck on the ball, moving the handle no longer allows the holes in the faucet and ball to line up so that water can pass. According to the way you describe it has only happened on the hot side.

Fixing the problem is quite easy, first shut off the water to those lines and take the valve apart. Identify the parts I described and replace the ones that are squished or stuck. The parts are dirt cheap and you should be able to replace both seals and springs inside of a hour.

It's possible that the valve I'm talking about is not built like the delta ( thanks there 3rd guy) but it's a moot point. You didn't say that the valve was acting this way before and since you didn't, I have to believe that the hot water pressure being low is not related to the plastic ring that limits hot water flow.

If it is a pressure matching valve- the kind that prevents a sudden drop in one side i.e. flushing the toilet gives a sudden burst of hot water, it would drop the cold side too and hardly any water would come out no matter what you did to turn the valve on. It all goes back to the valve being shot and a rebuild kit is still in order.

Come think of it, I wonder if your hot line might have a bubble in it. I've seen that be a problem too.

There is a mechanism in there that senses the water temperature of the mix and turns down the hot water valve if the stream is too hot. It sounds like that is stuck, probably from mineral deposits in the water after not being used for so long.

Call MOEN on their toll free support number and find out how to open it and clean out any mineral deposits or other blockages.
