Both.

Recovery rates of babies in one hospital was studied because the babies furthest from entry to the room took the longest to get well. It turned out that housekeeping personnel, when finishing up, would pick up the baby nearest the door.

Other times, like when training to go to sleep, if babies learn they can just cry and "wham" they are always picked up, they will train you.

So, it is a balance, not an extreme. However, how can showing love ever be shown to be wrong? Ere on the side of compassion.

Also, if the baby cries all of the time, perhaps there is something else wrong, go the doctor just to be sure. The baby cannot say, "hey mom, dad, my ear hurts all the time" or whatever.

today, some kids seem to be smarter at young age. Hear about all the time people that are 16 and finishing college. or a 2 year that can name all 50 states and capitals. Another kid that is 4 can name all the countries in the world and capitals. Could just be evolution.

A little of both. Babies need to learn to soothe themselves, but if they are screaming their heads off it can make them sick. The rule in our house is they have not stopped fussing or crying after 10 minutes, or if they start crying too hard we go get them. Both ways in the movie are bad if they are too extreme. Ignoring the child will cause them to not trust you, and over coddling will produce a needy, clingy child that can't cope with disappointment.

What ever is best for the parent. Kids are resilent and survive despite all of the mistakes parents across the world make.

Love for sure. They say you cant spoil a baby. I disagree but it is awesome to be able to pick up your crying baby and see them settle down just because you are there. That movie is hilarious though.

A baby needs to have trust in his environment. If you ignore his cries it's a form of saying to him that you don't care and can't be trusted. A happy baby gets prompt attention, smiles, holding while being fed, gentle movements, patience, cuddles and is kept clean .

you will learn his/her different cries. he/she will cry one way when hungry another when wet and another when lonely. Feed him/her when hungry change him/her when wet and comfort without holding when lonely. tickle talk touch just don't pick up all the time. its like this. if you always pick it up then he/she will always want that. its better not to pick them up all the time. they need to learn how to play and be on there own. they learn more and become more independent that way. good luck.

it depends on the age and the circumstances. At a certain point, babies need to learn to comfort themselves.

babies need plenty of love and attention to develop into healthy beings. give my baby hugs when she is upset to reassure her. letting her cry herself better would just be cruel.
