What I saw when I went to my freind's house un announced shocked me. I saw the husband hit my friend several times in the eye; I saw emotional abuse; I saw meth on the table.

I know he has been abused for awhile - or at least what it looks like. My question is do I have to have him go with me to give a statement, backing up what he's going through, or can I single-handedly report him for abuse?

(for all other questions... see my last question for details on what happened)

Your friend is in trouble and it sounds like you can help. You should call the police ASAP!!! If you don't want to report the abuse, report the dope.
I don't know how old you are but you if you are in school (not University) then you can tell a school counselor, they are mandated reporters in most states.
God luck to you and your friend.

Your friend needs to get out. But you cannot decide that for your friend, it has to be her choice. Leaving most likely will be dangerous, the first few days are the most dangerous. There are two things you can tell her, It will only get worse, and it never gets better. Second put distance between herself and the abuser. Simpson case is a example of being too close. Needs to go to a shelter, there is help available. As for you keep a low profile, friends and relatives are often killed when the abused leaves, especially if in volved with the break up.

You can certainly report it yourself. What happens next may depend on the abused's willingness to corroborate or press charges. However, if drugs are found in the home, that will be another story all together.

Contact the police. Be prepared to make a statement. Know that the accused will have a legal right to know who accused him. If it goes to court, you might be called to testify.

The best thing is to speak to your friend. Have her go to the E.R. at the local hospital and seek medical attention. Have her tell the nurse/doctor what's going on. In the U.S. medical professionals (including EMTs and Paramedics) are legally required to notify the police.
