Have it cleaned by a furrier. After sitting for years in a cupboard the skins have probably gotten quite dry and you would need a furriers expertise to keep it from becoming damaged further.

Animals roll in the dust in the summer and the snow in the winter.

I've heard you sprinkle them with baking soda and shake it out. A light mist of Febreeze works well also.
