No, they never found out who was the actual ripper - They have a very strong idea WHO it was - and yes it was a Doctor - today he would never have gotten away with it - unless he calmed child abuse as a kid and maybe the court would be sympathetic to his case .
The Ripper was really good at what he did - I believe that several predominate people know who he was and protected him because he was a member of society at this time of history.

There are many theories, but no answers. Some suspects include "Leather Apron," a Polish meatcutter, or even a member of the royal family. Some also say he emigrated to the U.S. and committed crimes here which are similar to the Jack the Ripper murders. Finally, at least one police officer of the time commented that he had been put away, possibly in an asylum.

There has never been a difinitive answer as to who the Ripper was...although one prominent theory is that he could have moved to another part of Europe and changed his name to Walter Sickert as Sickert did some paintings depicting scenes form the ripper's murders that had details that ONLY the ripper could have known. But other than that there is nothing conclusive on him, or any of the other suspects.

I tend to gravitate toward the Sickert theory myself.

No, the Ripper case remains open to this day. Although there seemed to be 4 suspects at the time, the police were unable to place burden of proof on anyone specifically.

Hope this helps.

Patricia Cormwall in "Case Closed" says it was Walter Sickert, a minor English painter. He died about 1940.

But in the end it's all guess work.

No, there is no definitive evidence as to whom he could have been. The notoriety of the crimes led to many theories, none of which were proved.
