I have an interview after work tonight and I really want it. I know confidence is really important in an interview, and I do really believe that I am perfect for this job and I have a lot to offer them. But somehow whenever I'm in an interview I start to act fidgety and ramble on like a silly little girl regardless of how confident I felt to begin with. What can I do to keep cool?

It's normal to be nervous and interviewers know it. Over confidence can be even be seen as arrogance. Some of the above is OK. Its a good ides to really know the company you are talking to and why you want to work for them. Companies like to meet people who understand, and have a genuine interest in what they do. Most interviewers are happiest when talking about their own company so have some good questions up your sleeve - and don't just save them for the "have you got any questions" bit. Asking good, well thought out questions also allows you time to relax and calm your nerves. Smile - it not only makes you look confident, it actually has a claming effect. Also focus on the interviewer, and what they are saying rather than listening to any voices in your own head. Enjoy it - the interviewer will want you to succeed and if you are perfect for the job, you will get it. Good luck!

Keep it in mind that you are perfect for the job and they would be silly to pass you up. Remind yourself of all the skills you have to offer. Keep your answers short and to the point and try to relax - after all, they may be feeling nervous too - no-one enjoys the interview situation, believe me! If they offer you a drink, accept it and punctuate your answers with a few sips. This can give you something to do with your hands other than fidget and will give you a few seconds to collect your thoughts when they ask you something. Big yourself up a lot right before going in and remember that you have a job already, if you don't get this one it's not the end of the world - there will always be other offers!

Best of Luck!!!

Right. To become good at something you need to practice. The more interviews you have the easier they become. So, write out a list of questions you are normally asked including, why you want to work there, strengths and weaknesses etc and write down a few answers. Read the questions and answers out aloud to yourself or someone you feel comfortable listening to you. When you have repeated these things a few times it wont be so traumatic. I am wicked in interviews but Ive had lots and lots of jobs! Once you have your answers ready it isnt difficult. Just think of it as knowing the answers to an exam in advance!

Use short, concise answers and do not embelish. If you are not sure of the question, say so and ask if they could elaborate. When you have answered their question, look at them and assess whether or not they want any more. If in doubt simply ask if your response satisfies their query.
Don't come over as an exciteable little girl, you are the mature, reliable person they have been looking for !!! Keep that in your head.

If ever you are feeling overawed or even frightened in an interview, simply imagine them sat there in their underwear and you will feel so superior!!

Rambling is caused because you are nervous. Stay focused. Show them that you have done your research by being knowledgeable about the product they are selling.

And above all be yourself and keep good eye contact.

Stay focused bette to say your bit and then zip it. You will soon know when the time is right for you to start talking again.

Well done you've got the job.

this is going to sound dumb, besides the undeniable fact that it does help. positioned an elastic band on your wrist. once you start up speaking and you hear your self start to ramble, snap the band. it is your sign to declare, "yet that would not relatively pertain to this place, does it?" and supply up speaking. while interviewers bypass away long gaps in the converation, they're usually only attempting to confirm in case you're comfortable adequate to easily hear, or in case you ought to fill in all the silence with chatter. So while they ask you a query, pause for a 2nd, think of roughly what they have asked and answer their question. era. do not volunteer each variety of alternative stuff, only tell them what they had to be attentive to. stable success with it

Concentrate on sitting up straight and sitting still. Hold something in your hands (like your CV - but don't fiddle with it!) or fold your hands in your lap like someone else suggested.

Always take a deep breath and consider your answer before you even open your mouth. Don't feel like you have to keep on talking to fill the silence - just because they are not ready to ask their next question, doesn't mean that you have to keep talking!

Good luck

Prepare and assert yourself mentally before hand. Answer questions as simply as possible. Imagine the questions that you expect to be asked so forth. Stay calm. Peace. And good luck.

Don't overstep the question with your answers, keep them short and to the point, but not blunt.
Remember to keep eye contact, this will help with your fidgeting.
Always have a few questions of your own,and always speak with a clear voice, never mumble.
