The first Thanksgiving Day was a day of thankfullness to God, sharing the fruits of the land with the Indians, lots of food, laughter and fun.

Do you believe that this fellowship still exists through out the year?

I think they would be AMAZED beyond words that so much has happened since their time on Earth!! If they were aware of ALL the issues ,demands and criticisms thrown at our country, they WOULD be pleased....it is not easy being a "super power." No matter what we do, someone is greatly thankful and someone is greatly dismayed.
Happy Thanksgiving and God bless our wonderful country......

I don't think it was really like that. They were a desperate, bedraggled, nearly extinct group of settlers whose group had the majority of people wiped out. When the indians helped them, they were grateful, of course, but this didn't last long because not long afterwards they started killing and robbing from indians.

The Puritans were also not into "laughter and fun." They believed that people need to suffer for their sins, that one should not have pleasure, etc.

Who cares what the pilgrims would think. Aren't they the ones who thanked the Indians for bringing the turkey to the table, then slaughtered them by the hundreds and ran them off their land, killing all their buffalo and desecrating the earth?

No one ought to be proud of how much 'better' our concern for our fellow man has gotten.

Actually they were Puritans and they were thanking the Indians not themselves. You would need an understanding of their belief system before delving into the deeper aspects of how we have reinterpreted their intentions.
