Drive a car in insurance group 1 or 2 (generally a small-engined city car or super-mini from a European manufacturer, see What Car? or Parkers Guide to check which group any particular model & version falls into).
Don't modify the car.
Take a Pass-Plus course.
Shop around for insurance - whoever is cheapest for someone else may not be for you.
Live in a low-risk area.
Have a low-risk job (e.g. bank clerk, not TV presenter).
Once you have built up some no-claims discount you can think about a more desirable car.

There are two ways to get (relatively) cheap car insurance:
The best I've been able to find, in any state, is GEICO. Compare their rates with anyone and you'll find them to be the lowest. And, from personal experience (been with GEICO for twenty years now) they take care of claims fast.
The other way is to be part of a large group insurance, such as Good Sams VIP insurance (RV owner's club). Insurance companies give large groups major discounts.
Best advice is to shop around. Just make sure you compare on the basis of the features you want.

Good Luck at that age the best thing is to stay under the umbrella of your parents insurance but if you must have your own or only option, then just call around and shop. But dont go to Progressive or Geiko or those companies the promise to look out for you because they are not running around in fancy cars for nothing. Sometimes Cheaper isnt the best either....also have to look at how hard they will work for you when you need them as in a wreck or whatever.

depends on what car you drive you might be better of being a named driver on another policy ie, mother/father. If you go with Direct Line you will still earn no claims bonus which is a good point since you will wanna build them up.
Also tried confused. com they search 90% of the market for you. xx

Go on line and check out Safeco. They are very reasonable and if you set up the payments to come directly out of your checking account or your credit card, they will give you an additional discount.

Your best bet is to go on a comparison website, you enter your info once and they search all companies for the cheapest.Unfortunatly at your age it is going to cost you alot whatever quote you get.

Put the policy in your parents name with you as a named driver. (but obviously only if your not the main driver of the car otherwise it is called 'Fronting' and is illegal).
Otherwise take your PassPlus.
