One thing you have to remember is that the characters that were killed in the crucible weren't witches, they were innocent people who the girls didn't like. There is a ton of websites and books dedicated to our faith, you can search for Witchcraft or Wicca (Wicca will probably give you better information)

A few basic points about Wicca is that;;
1) We are not an religion bases on Abraham.
2) We hold all of Nature and all life as sacred.
3) We believe that what energy you send out will return to you three fold (the Three-Fold Law)
4) We believe in Karma.
5) We believe in reincarnation.
6) Our only rule is "Do as thou whilst, and in it harm none".
7) No one tells us how to worship, we do it as we feel is right.
8) No one is better than someone else.
9) We do not bend our knee to idols. We work with the Divine.

I do, I've married a couple of them. They didn't seem to have really good control over their power or emotions and both of these were really intense. They didn't sleep a lot and never were satisfied. They like shiny stuff, for example gold and silver, crystals; those sorts of things. I think they'd both of been better at their craft if they had direction which neither ever sought, oh and that's another thing they were naturals; not taught. It appeared in both cases to be heredity not learned. They also were not apposed to casting out evil but paid for it dearly, it would appear to me that that rule of three is a fact not a fancy. I saw them both do magic and on more than a few occasions so I'm convinced. I think it makes them crazy after a while if they don't get direction; poor things. I sure am glad to be away from those girls now I'll tell You that but deep down inside I still love them both; I just don't want anything to do with them; they're too freaky! Take care Kid.

Thank you for your comment about stereotyping, wish more would feel that way. Now, without going into volumes about Wicca, Stephen pretty well has it covered. Trust me, there are volumes out there, both positive & negative. One thing I can tell you is that if you have Wiccan friends they can be trusted (as long as they are "white" witches), we are certainly not liars, cheats & thieves as we are often perceived (magick vs magic). We do not discriminate against others, tho we are certainly disctriminated against if someone is even aware that we are Wiccan. We do not judge others because we know that their actions will speak (three-fold applies to everyone). There are a number of denominations in Wicca, each has their own basic philosophy. Mine is Pictish. I have 3 wonderful feline friends, none black at the moment. I fear nothing from nature (except tornadoes). Feel free to contact me if you wish, and I will do the best I can to help you, that is, without doing your essay for you!

Witchcraft, in various historical, religious and mythical contexts, is the use of certain kinds of alleged supernatural or magical powers. A witch is a person who practises witchcraft, and may be male or female. In historical, mythological and demonological contexts a male "witch" is more frequently termed a wizard, sorcerer, warlock, or simply a magician. Male witches who practice as such as part of a Wiccan or Pagan belief system disapprove of the term 'Warlock' as the accepted meaning of the word is 'Oath breaker'.
The term witchcraft can have positive or negative connotations depending on cultural context; for instance, in post-Christian European cultures it has historically been associated with dualistic notions of evil and the Devil, while most modern practitioners see it as beneficent and morally positive.

GOOD LUCK !

That's a good place to start. There are a variety of Pagan religions, if you can get your hands on a copy of Margot Adler's "Drawing Down the Moon" you'll be in good shape, since she defines them quite accurately. If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact me!
