The earth has been going through cyclical warming and cooling for millenia. It has only been in the last 70 years or so that appropriate methods for data collection have been available. It is more hype to get government dollars than pure science. The models that have been developed can't even predict weather patterns that already happened with known data, let alone what will happen in the future.

Global warming was a theory from Southampton University in the UK in 1980. Although many of their predictions on warming have appeared to come true many areas have actually cooled. The theory is now largely discredited.
However -- Thinking scientists, politicians and the responsible media now refer to "Climate Change". The same amount of rain is falling just somewhere different with resultant floods and draughts. As some areas heat others have grown colder. Scientists have now shown this hot/cold balance has been happening throughout geological history. It has been shown that the real reason that the ice sheets are melting is that the shift in the weather pattern has been blowing warm air across them!
But do not throw the baby out with the bath water. Many ideas such as cutting carbon emissions, seeking alternate energy, recycling and many others are very good and are required.
The real need is good scientific research, sensible and open minded debate and for everyone to be sure that any steps taken do not create unforeseen bigger problem. Banning CFC's was good? Well yes - and No. Banning them will help a little with the supposed ozone problem. Trouble is one of the gases now used in fridges and air conditioning units is actually ten times more polluting!!!!!

Not at all, although some politicians are pretending it were a myth.
We must stop burning coal, oil and gas that have been built during millions of years within a few centuries. Predictions say that the highest mountain in Africa, the Kilimanjaro, will loose its legendary ice cap within 15 to 20 years. I was there with scientists, who took samples of the ice, that told them, the annual accumulation of ice has continuosly diminished in the past 50 to 100 years.
In European Alps, glaciers are visibly getting smaller and the limit above which there is permafrost (which means that even loose stones are kept together through the whole year by ice) is rapidly rising.
To icynici: You are right, temperatures on earth have changed before. BUT THEY HAVE NEVER DONE IT AS QUICKLY AS NOW! So don't talk of a hype ! ! !

Not hardly! If you kept track of current global weather events you'd already know this. The ice cap covering the north pole is slowly melting, and it is due to global warming. If you don't believe me, just wait, you will see the effects during your lifetime. This I can assure you.

no it's not. there are a few articles in science and nature. let's put it this way to get things published in those articles they have to be cutting edge and have loads of facts behind them
