for a guy I recently started dating, any suggestions? He's into shooting pool and playing cards.

get him a cologne that YOU like the smell of it's a win win it's a pricey gift that men like, trust men i have like 15 bottles of cologne, plus you'll get to have a man that you think smells good all the time

Does he had a game room/bar in his house/apartment? If so get him a pool/card themed lamp, or picture. The dogs shooting pool is very popular. A t-shirt or sweatshirt would also be a good idea.
In general the best way to pick a gift for someone is to be very attentive and observant. Listen to what he talks about, pay attention to what he wears and what his residence/car looks like. You should be able to get a good feel for what he likes or needs just by paying attention.

I was in your shoes last year...I feel for ya! I would avoid anything pool or cards related, because that's probably what everyone who knows him gets him! If they're anything like my family, it's like, oh, Bill likes that cards---he'll like this...and that's all he gets.
Does he like a particular band? Alot of them put out box sets or DVD's around now. Guys seem to like that. Or, is there something cool you know he'd like to do, like see a game live--you could get tickets, and the gift could be tix for 2 to see the team, a team shirt/hat, and some other small thing...

Depends on how much you want to spend. If he needs a new pool stick that would be nice or shop online and get him an unuasual set of cards.Something out of the ordinary.
