I've read that it actually INCREASES out-of-wedlock pregnancy and abortion rates. I believe the distribution of birth control is demeaning to women, degrading of human sexuality and adverse to human health and happiness. Do you agree?

Hi, Bork! I responded to your other question on BC and found this question through that one. So, you already know how I feel about birth control--but you don't know how I feel about its legality, right?

Here's what I think: as more and more people become aware of the health effects of birth control and as more and more people realize that chemical forms of birth control cause early abortions, the people themselves will demand that birth control be illegal. Right now, there is a media push for contraception and abortion, so the truth about what is really going on is dismissed--usually in this way: "Oh, they are just religious fanatics." or "But it is a greater evil that these poor women have an unwanted pregnancy." (leaving out "...than if they kill their unborn children!) I do believe, eventually, enough people will see the pattern that I see--I think this is growing. With each generation, more and more people are growing up with the aftereffects of the pro-abortion/contraception crowd, and they want better. I don't know how long this will take, but I do think eventually the carelessness with which the pharmecuetical companies have treated women will come to the surface and people will be furious.
Here are some recent examples: the pharm. company that makes and distributes the depo-provera shot is now being sued by women who have suffered strokes, blood clots and the families of women who have died from this drug. Two years ago or so, in "Consumer Report," they tested condoms. Whose condoms were the most likely to fail---in fact, that failed so badly that CR requested another batch of condoms thinking that the first was damaged and yet still got the same horrible failure rates???? Planned Parenthood's condoms. That's right, they distribute them for "free," so you can show up in their office just a few months later and pay hundreds of dollars for an abortion.
Sad to say, but that's just business to PP and the pharm. companies.
Thanks for reading and good luck!!!

First of all, what's your source? Second, no, I don't think it should be illegal. If anything, banning birth control would increase the number of unsafe, illegal abortions that would not only result in the deaths of the fetuses, but in many cases, those of the mothers, as well. Also, when you say that the distribution of birth control is "degrading of human sexuality", you are inferring that the women are the only ones with any sort of responsibility in a sexual relationship, and that simply isn't the case. IT TAKES TWO! Also, you seem to think that sex should only be for procreation and not for mutual enjoyment. That attitude is as outdated as the dinosaurs.

No----It is not demeaning. Some women do not have access to funds to pay for birth control---much less a child. Birth control is cheaper than a baby. I would rather see the government give out free birth control that welfare checks.

That is the stupidest statement I have seen in Yahoo Answers. I agree that anyone who could say what you just said should lose the right to ever vote because you are obviously incapable of making a rational choice.

You sound like Rick Santorum. If birth control is illegal, it will only increased MORE unwanted pregnancies and diseases. HIV will be rampant like you wouldn't even imagine. Things are going great but they could be worse.

You have made a statement and then asked Do you agree. So typical. Birth Control should be easily available to everyone. You are in the dark ages.

In a free society, you have to let other people decide for themselves. But a free society is not in the least what you're interested in-- am I right?
