If you are in good health I would say once every other year.
A physical is something you get for a job and a routine checkup is something you do on your own. Mostly they ask you how your feeling, usually do a blood test, a urine speciman watching for diabetitis. That is pretty much the routine.

It is good to get a yearly check-up that way the doctor will have a base to compare to in case anything changes and needs to be checked further.

As to what exactly happens during a check-up, it depends on whether you are a girl or a guy. Sorry, but I can't tell by your name.

My recommendation is that the average person should get one at least once per year.
