I really can't pick one ... but if I had to .... I'd go with Santana ... I've lived to see him .... I never saw Hendrix.

Though from what I hear ... that man was a genius with the guitar

Jimi Hendrix, hands down. I think Carlos Santana would agree. Hendrix could play backwards, forwards and upside down, with his fingers his teeth...
He made a guitar a supernatural instrument!
Now CS is good but Hendrix was magical!

I would say Hendrix, but I do respect Santana almost as much as Hendrix. In Hendrix's short lived life of 27 years, he innovated the sound of the guitar. In his life, he was ahead of his time. I know Hendrix was sincere because he relied souly on his heart and feel of playing. Hendrix never learned how to read music which just blows my mind. He played all of that by ear. This has nothing to do with you question, but Jimmy Page is my favorite guitarist of all time.

this summer when Ritchie Havens was at the Kool Aid Days festival in Hastings, NE, I found out that this Havens dude actually wrote many of Hendrix's stuff and gave it to him, handwritten on scraps of paper, in a coffee shop. the good ole days, anyway, I have no idea of these 2 who was better, but watching Ritchid doing Freedom till his guitar strings broke and he was so exhausted he collapsed to the stage, I'm gonna go Hendrix.

That's like asking "Which is better, winning the lottery or hitting the Wheel of Fortune machine in Ac?" They both accomplish pretty much the same thing.... it's just all about how you want to get there.
