There was a study that they did on the news saying that we only put things in the frig. because we think we should, they said things like ketsup and peanut butter doesn't need to be refrigerated because there are certain things in them that make them ok to sit out.

How is this a question?? Seems like a statement to me. I keep my ketsup in the cabinet at all times. I never refrigerate it because I do not like cold ketsup on hot food. Just me

The ketchup bottles in a restaurant don't last very long. I waited tables at 4 different restaurants and I had to replace the ketchup on each table about once per night. If not, it was used up and replaced before I came in the next night by the lunch folks. If you are worried about the "goodness" of the ketchup on the table, just look at it and sniff it. Bad ketchup gets bubbles in it and has a very nasty, not-so-ketchupy smell.

Ketchup doesn't really need to be refrigerated if it gets used fast enough. The vinegar in it helps keep it from going bad as fast so that is why alot of restaurants don't refrigerate it.

I have never refrigerated ketchup at home. The acidity of the tomatoes & vinegar keep it from going bad. Also, they use rather small bottles in the restaurants so they get replaced fairly quickly.

Ketchup does not need to be refrigerated. Look at the label.
I don't like putting ketchup in the fridge because it gets condensation inside and then gets all watery. It's not going to go bad unless it takes you a very, very long time to use it. I've been storing ketchup in my pantry for years and have never had a problem with it.

I've wondered the same thing but I like cold ketchup and think it's healthier refrigerated. I think they go through it so much faster too. Probably filling the bottles daily.

Ketchup is one of those items which is consumed very quickly and the most requested condiment. It is convienent for the bottle to be left on the table. It is not unusualy to go through one or two bottles per table on a normal lunch rush.

I don't think there's anything wrong with leaving it out.
Ketchup is emptied much faster in restaurants than in a home, so the ketchup there is very likely being refilled quickly as well.

Ketchup is very acidic, which means that it doesn't need refrigeration.
