Keep in mind:
*your skin type (get something for oily skin)
*your coloring (this includes your undertones -- warm, cool or nuetral. A good trick to figure out your undertones is to see if you look better in yellow gold or silver jewelry. If you look better in gold, you'd have warm undertones. silver, you'd have cool undertones. both, you're nuetral. test for color on your neck not on your hand.)
*what type of coverage do you want? (powder is usually light coverage. liquid is medium coverage. cream is heavy coverage.)

The proper way to put on foundation is in downward circular strokes. With your clean finger or a sponge dab on three dots on forehead, one dot on nose, a dot on each cheek, and a dot on the chin and blend it in.

Clinique has good foundation from a department store and not as expensive as some other brands. Loreal has good foundation from a pharmacy.

The first thing you want is an oil-free foundation. Not only is it lighter and more natural looking, it will help keep your skin from looking shiny. Then you want one that matches your skin tone. If you can't find an exact match, then go very slightly lighter. It's easier to blend, and looks more natural than going darker. Since you want a clean, natural look, this means you want to stick with very light coverage makeup- just enough to even out skin tone and cover any blemishes. Stay away from cakes, sticks, and mouses, they could be too heavy. Instead, try a spray on. It's the lightest coverage you can buy, and they look great.
The easiest application is to spray it on the back of your hand, then use a makeup sponge to dab it up, and sweep onto your face like any other foundation, and blend well. Don't try a foundation brush, it's harder to master using for the perfect finish.
Spray foundations are a bit more expensive than liquids, but well worth every penny since they last longer and will give a better finish. Try Sally Hansen or MAC. If you aren't on a tight budget, then get the original spray from Classified Cosmetics, it's actually a makeup that's good for your skin.

Well you need to buy the right foundation for your skin type. If you have oily skin buy foundation that is oil free. Also, be sure the foundation matches skin. When you go shopping for makeup if they have a tester...take a little and blend into your jawline. It should be undetectable. The brands I recommend are Prescriptives and Mac. When applying foundation, use a foundation brush(Both Prescriptives and Mac sell them) or use a triangle sponge. A little goes a long way. Make sure to blend well especially around the jaw...you don't want a line. Foundation evens out your skin tone...not conceal. If you have blemishes/dark spots you needs to cover, purchase a concealer.

I really like Sally Hansen air brush foundation. Just shake it and spray onto your sponge and apply. It is a thin foundation but covers really well and stays on a long time. I haven'y seen it in Wal-Mart where I used to buy it so you might have to buy it at an actual beauty supply store like Sally's, BeautyCo, or Ulta. I recommend going to MerleNorman or a place like that, they will apply make up for you in the right shades and the right way. In the process you learn how to do your makeup the right way, which products work well on your skin, and you just had a makeover so you look hot all day!

Keep in mind that you don't want it darker than your skin, because it will make you look fake. Go to a makeup counter and ask them to try different kinds on your skin. They have tons .. different kinds for oily, dry, combination, etc. I really like Lancome and Clinique foundation..they go on smooth and have a nice cover to them. If you don't want to pay department store prices, go to your drugstore and look for the foundation that best matches your skin tone. Also make sure to see what type of skin it is for, b/c there a few to choose from. Take it home and if you don't like it you can always return if for a different shade.

Pay a visit to the local mall. Please try Prescriptives as they specialize in skin matching. I tried this and was very surprised I was cool, not warm, and not yellow but blue/red.

Let a Makeup Artist show you. It's way easier than reading a big long paragraph. MAC has fun colors.

I really like Lumene's products. They have a great moisturizer that I use (I have oily skin too). It moisturizes and controls the shine, it's called Matt Touch Balancing Moisturizer. As for the foundation, I went on their website and this one looks like one you might want to try:

MAC...this makeup feels light and matches good with skin...feels great and not cakey...stays on and just a little goes a long way...foundation and powder runs about $50.00 but worth it.
