I am having my elbow manipulated under anaesthetic to try and improve movement after a radial head replacement. How much pain should I expect after and how long before it eases off? Has anyone had this done?

How much pain your feel will have a lot to do with your pain threshold. Some people just handle pain better than others. You probably won't really feel anything until most of the anesthesia is out of your system (at least a couple to 4 hours). Be sure to ask your doctor for a prescription for a pain medication, and make sure you don't let him tell you Tylenol or Motrin. You can buy those if you need them, but you'll be calling him at 2:30 in the morning and won't be able to find a pharmacy, if you leave the hospital without a script.

There is a reason they give you anesthesia or anesthetic, because it is a very painful procedure and cannot be tolerated with out a medication. Yes, you will have pain afterward, but the Dr. will give you medication to ease it. You should start feeling less pain in 3-4 days. After that, an OTC med, like Tylenol should be all you need.

if you have a high threshold on pain, the description will be moderate. besides, after the procedure, you will be given analgesics. the pain will disappear gradually as the days go on. you must obey what your doctor says so prevent complications.
