I had a discussion about this with my philosophy lecturer and we wondered if there was a pattern to why people recall their memories in different ways.

Think about this: try to remember the last time you were on a beach...in a park...went swimming...etc. How did you remember the event? Was it via association or dissociation?

Okay so 'associatiion' is when you remember the event as if you are experiencing it again first hand...

...and 'dissociation' is when you remember it as if you are watching it back on a movie screen and you can see yourself in the situation

My memories are dissociated as I can see myself walking on the beach - is that crazy? What is your memory like?

I remember the event as I originally saw it through my own eyes, so do not watch myself in the memory.

Cool question, i didn't even know people remembered stuff in another way! Definitely going to explore this more!

here's one for you to ask him about next time- what about memories of dreams? Often I watch myself in dreams from the outside- is this just because I remember it through disassociation or is it actually that way during the dream?

mine is also dissociated, because i remember the events, but i dont see myself in it...

like a couple days ago i went to different places during the same day, i dont have any memories of how i looked, or what i was doing, i just have memories of other persons, places and actions...its like i'm watching a movie on my head..or trough my eyes ...lol

Memmories are always associated with something. If an event is not associated with anything you are sure to forget it and will not be kept in memmory.
What you feel like walking on seashore etc are imagination.Imagination has no limit.Imagination is based on read/felt experiances and fully dependant on any incident or memmory.

Mine is via association. I relive the event as I recall them.

Some are, like the ones we want to forget.
Some aren't, and we can hold them as is, or reinvent
