Sometimes when I run the dishwasher, the detergent door will not open and it's still full of soap when its done. If I scrubb the hinges and door latch with a toothbrush, it sometimes helps. Yesterday, I ran the dishwasher 3 times, and the soap door still won't pop open. How do these things work, and what can I do to fix it?!?!

Are you using gel or liquid detergent? Powder detergent will not gum up the door... also, you might run the dishwasher through a cycle with some white vinegar. It will clean it out....finally, it might be a little switch that is failing but since it works sometimes and not others, it probably is just gunked up...switch to powder!!

I would run it on the sanitize or tough scrub or the hottest setting for two times with the door open. This should clean out any thing that might be in there,,,,old soap, food, waste, etc.

Just buy your dishwasher soap in those little squares. Then you can just toss them into the washer and let it go.
