no it peirced his heart if it would not have hit his heart he may still be here many people get hit by the barb only 3 people have died from a barb him being the 3rd. there would have been no way he would have lived even if he wouldnt have pulled it out the poiden in the bard would have gon directly in to his blood flow as well

It IS possible to have something removed from the heart during surgery and live, but this wasn't just poisoned, it would also have caused infections - the tetanus mentioned would have been the least of his worries, at least it's treatable. But in a weakened state, post-open heart surgery, I don't think he could have survived any infections. And even without infections, it may be POSSIBLE to live through that sort of surgery, but it's very high risk.

Personally, I think he just spared himself a day or two of extreme suffering by pulling it out.

They said he might have caused himself to hemmorhage when he pulled the barb out.
