I am behind on a couple of car payments and was wondering if i could get an advance from my employer? Is this possible and how should I go about asking for it?

Yes you can ask your employer for an advance. Normally the amount given in advance is deducted from your upcoming paycheque. Just keep in mind that it may be more difficult to bridge the gap between cheques when one cheque is significantly less than usual due to your advanced pay. You could think about approaching your bank to see if they can help you by renegotiating your payments or allowing you a period of grace.

I haven't but I work in the payroll dept so people in my office have. We don't have an employee handbook, or manual, which often addresses this issue in other offices, so it's pretty casual. A person just asks their department manager- I need an advance of $ xx.00 and the manager says yes or no. Sometimes they pay it back in full, the next payday, or sometimes they pay it in installments- $100.00 per paycheck for 5 paychecks. But first I'd check to see if your company has a printed list of procedures because that may determine how you should ask (maybe there is a form to fill out, etc....)

Some employers do it - my best friend did it recently. It will be much easier to ask if you already have a friendly relationship with your employer and/or HR person. There's no way to beat around the bush - just tell them your situation and ask if an advance is a possibility. Just make sure you repay them ASAP or it can cost you your job.

I have and all I did was tell him my problem. Thats all you can really do if that doesnt work you can go to any check cashing store and bring your paycheck stub and id. They will give you one and give you about 2-3 weeks to pay it back.
