No one else would have them. Seriously, you are wrong, the Queen is not the monarch of the Commonwealth countries, many of which are republics, but she is head of state of a few of them. Even those are constitutionally separate so are not affected by changes in Britain - or vice versa. Nor is there any need for a referendum. Did Cromwell have a referendum? No. The Queen's remaining powers as British monarch are exercised by the Prime Minister and that could be changed by Act of Parliament. The Queen would then be monarch in name only and no doubt some people would grovel childishly as they do now but probably only the odd punter when she went to Tescos and not the entire media crew like now.

I presume you recommend monarchy as in rulers. Do they actually rule? what's their suitable function? Is it a rely of then not having everybody to open parliament or a backyard fete or help a charity? The the Aristocracy will nonetheless exist in spite of if there's a monarch as titular head of government or not. there'll i assume, be no economic help from the government/people as quickly as the Windsors at the instant are not the monarchs. Is that the main significant reason for removing the call? there'll nonetheless be princesses and dukes and earls. what's the monarchy yet a huge vacationer draw. I say shop them, for now.

The British monarchy, is the head of a class system, in which the queen is the head, then her relatives, then dukes, earls madams, and dames, it filters down to the commoners, and they all like to think of themselves as being better than the next commoner. Anyhow getting to the point, if the British had no Monarch it would become a democratic republic, like the United states. there will be no class structure, everyone will be born of equal rank irrelevant of money. or social status of their parents. What they achieve in their lifetime will depend on their own merits not on their birthright.. My opinion the British people would be better off without the queen, they would not see themselves as at least "second class citizens" and if a British subject who doesn't agree with what I am saying, then I he is deluded.

I don't think anyone could "tease out" what belongs to Elizabeth Winsor and what belongs to the state. It would take a board of auditors working round the clock 25-50 years to decide this. Example: The state owns the Crown Jewels, the queen owns the Title: "Defender of the Faith." The state claims that it owns much of the rents for real estate in London, Elizabeth Winsor says they are her rents gifted to the state. This back and forth goes on and on. Plus if you get rid of the royalty the aristocracy stays behind. Aristocratic titles are "tangible assets."

A tax-free figurehead may be as useless as **** on a bull but it is part of the tradition. It does bring more tourists and yes we all love a little royalty in our lives. So as far as this Commonwealther is concerned my answer is we keep the Monarchy until Charles decides to do away with this wife too.

I dont think we should abolish the IMMEDIATE royal family, The Queen, her husband, her siblings, her children and Grandchildren, anyone else should have to earn a living like the rest of us. I think the immediate royal family generate alot of income for our country through tourism. I also think that the royal family have a part to play in national identity, pride and tradition.

If the Monarchy stay they should get back to setting a good example to the rest of us. For Prince Charles to take his son out on Boxing day and teach him how to shoot harmless birds out of the sky and the next day to commit adultery beggars belief!!

The question is really irrelevant; the people will never give up the Monarchy; it's a way of life, and the people love all of the glitz!

Keep the Royalty. They really don't cost us much, but they have a lot of influence both at home and abroad. Besides we need them as a couterweight against a corrupt government.
