I can not start windows normally and i tried to do a system restore in safe mode and it took ages so i decided to shut down the computer. When i tried to re-install Windows XP home it came up with the blue screen error message : page_fault_in nonpaged_area (it also lists the following code: STOP: 0x00000050 (0xc6280000, 00xc00000000, 0x 8081b23, 0x 00000000) this message also comes up when you try to repair option also. I have award winning bios and it starts up ok with the usual one short beep indicating no hardware problems. I can not access safe mode any more. I have not installed any new hardware or software. Does anyone have any ideas?

Just format the drive in which Xp is installed and re install Xp again. Sorry that ur data which is in the drive Xp is stored will be deleted, other drives will be unharmed.

Go to BIOS by rebooting the computer and pressing DEL while its loading up kernel and shell.
Then, go to boot priority, there, ur externel drives would be shown
like ur floppy drive, hard drive and the cd rom drive.
Like 1: Floppy drive
2: Hard drive
3: Cd- rom drive
This shows that floppy drive will be loaded 1st, the the hard drive, finally, the cd rom drive. Now because u will install Xp from a cd, make the cd rom drive 1st, the ur hard drive and at last the floppy drive. Now save the changes and reboot the pc but before re starting it, insert ur Xp cd in ur cd rom. Now because Cd rom will be readed 1st, it will show "Press any key to boot from CD". Now press any key and follow the instructions that appear. Be sure to format only that drive in which Xp is installed.

RAM is not a bad guess as the source of the problem. No guarantee of course - sometimes this sort of thing can be little more than a trial & error game. if the computer has been acting OK in the past and is not that old though, you could first check to make sure that the stick(s) are installed correctly and haven't jarred loose somehow. Be careful to take proper static electrictiy precautions if you are going to enter the case yourself.

The haxdoor virus can also cause this problem look here

you need to enter bios and change boot options to cd as first boot
put disc in drive and boot to cd
do not do repair option go on to fresh install and format drive and reinstall a fresh copy of windows
if you use raid drivers remember to press F6 when asked

Put the XP disk in , boot from cd , recovry console , do a chkdsk /p , reboot see if it works .

If not , back to recovery console and follow steps to fix MBR , should work

Sounds like you need to do a fresh installation of Windows XP. Personally, I would donate it to charity and buy a Mac.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
