The UN bureaucrats always talk about how they are 'pro-poor' while living the high life and being chaufered around in 4X4 jeeps. Is that really 'pro-poor'?

They can be anything they darn well wanna be, dontcha know!
I don't think there is any such thing as pro-poor. No-one really goes around saying "hurray! it' great to be poor!" Fat lying bar stewards. (oh, and rich too).

Well, this may come as a shock but most of the politicians and high-ranking government officials in capitalist countries tend to be the well-educated rich which may be why the rich are in charge of the world (generally speaking).

Never underestimate human capacity for intelligence and compassion, as well as critical thinking and a commitment to social justice. Most of the rich were born rich. People like Bill Gates made their money and they can affect the political agenda in positive ways if they stay rich rather than giving all their money to the poor.

It is not just a UN situation, it is everywhere in politics. Till we introduce publicly funded elections, we will have the richest, not the best at power. Of course, publicly funded elections is not a perfect system, but it is workable, with a lot of room for improvement.

Isn't that politics from whatever persuasion. Look at our socialist party, who are supposed to to be all for the working classes ( and are not we all), but as soon as our MP's get in to Westminster, those ideas go right out of the window. They cannot represent us, only obey the whips, and that means: what Tony wants, Tony gets. The answer, I don't know, but it is infuriating.

Uh-huh. They have chocen the path in their life for a reason or another, surely to live the high-life there would've been other choices for them, if they indeed came from a rich family.

You have hit the nail on the head - lots of aid goes on paying aid workers ... the same with the UN.

Well, Bill Gates gives away billions of dollars a year. Bono raises charity for Africa. I guess you can care about anyone and still live a life of luxury. If you had money, would you spend it only on others and not on yourself?
