Alittle back story; On Friday we started giving him whole milk instead of formula (he turns 1 in a couple of days) He's been eating solid food pretty well for the past month, with only 3 bottles in between. (which is pretty good for him b/c before he wouldn't eat any solids, and drank WAAAAY too many bottle to be so old) Anyway, he seemed to handle the milk well. No diahrrea, no gas, or anything.

So, yesterday he started screaming at about 2 o'clock and wouldn't stop. I tried everything. He wouldn't eat lunch, dinner, or any snacks. Maybe a few cheerios here and there, but nothing you could actually call a whole snack. Anyway, he went to sleep at 8:30! Which is weird for him, because he usually doesn't go to bed until 10. Not to mention he just passed out in my lap, usually I have to bounce him to sleep drinking a bottle. Then he slept until 10:30 this morning!! (usually he wakes up at 8) Again, he wants nothing to do with solid food, just the bottles. But he is soooo crabby. He wanted nothing other than to be held. I should say me holding him while I'm standing up and swaying back a forth. (it's very annoying) So he falls back asleep at 12:30, sleeps until 1:30, wakes up cries for another bah (bottle) and then falls asleep again at 2:00. It's almost 3 now and he's still asleep! He doesn't have a fever, no diaper rash, or anything else wrong with him that I can see. He could always be getting another tooth, but when I checked in his mouth I didn't feel any bumps.

So, I don't know what the hell is going on. If you actually took the time to read this and have any ideas, PLEASE share. I'm going out of my mind. I'm worried. I called his pediatrician, but of course that lazy ***** hasn't gotten back with me yet. Help... please.....going crazy................AHHHH

Thanks for everyone's answers so far. I'm worried about the ear infection thing. He's never had one, so I"ve been really lucky in that department. Maybe my luck has run up. LOL. He woke up about 10 mins, ago and is sitting in my lap eating cheerios and those freeze dried apple peices. Maybe he's feeling better. *fingers crossed* Although, I am still going to try to get him to the doctor. I'm paranoid.

Doesn't those baby doctors just drive you nuts!! They may see hundreds of babies but we only have a few!
I do have three kids. My oldest had allergies when he was young. I am thinking this problem your baby had may have been a reaction to the whole milk.
Whole milk is different then two percent or the others. My oldest child could not have whole milk until he was five or so (he could not eat anything with tomato in it until older as well). The middle boy did not get whole milk until his brother could have it (no reason but made no sense buying two different milks) and by the time I had the third he always had it.
Of course we had to stop the whole milk now (boys are huge).
Try giving him one percent or 2 percent? I hear goats milk is supposed to be real good for kids who have reactions to cow milk. I wished I new this when my boys were babies....
Good luck and I HOPE the doctor gets back to you!

My son is 11 mths old and I had the same exact problem a few weeks ago... I started him on milk and he did great for a few days then all of a sudden he started waking up in the middle of the night crying and he wouldn't eat regular food and he acted like he was sick. I switched him to regular soy milk and he has been fine ever since. The doctor said it can take time to build up an allergic response to milk and to just keep trying milk every three or four months until he's okay with it.

It could be one of several things. It could be some type of bug coming on, it could be an ear infection or he could be teeth. One of my granddaughters started crying a lot last week and complained quit a bit, but we couldn't figure out what it was. It took us 4 days to figure out she was cutting molars. He is at the age where he should be cutting those one year molars and they hurt like the dickens. Once we figured it out and started giving her Tylenol, she has been much better and crying a lot less. She was so bad that she was just running through the yard the other day and started crying for no reason.

Put your finger in to his mouth and feel way in the back. If the gums are swollen or you feel part of a tooth, that is your cause. Good luck and be careful with inserting the finger because teething makes them want to bite everything because chewing on things makes it feel better.

He can't handle the whole milk. See what the doctor says. I would be tempted to try him on low fat milk. Though, it seems he hasn't been overly keen on solid food. Have you tried him on baby food or did you go straight to adult food? My eldest was allergic to the baby food meat, no other signs like yours but she screamed the house down. After that the little guys are exhausted and sleep is good. Now there is no rule saying you can't put formula in a cup for him if you want him off the bottle.

Well for starters, has he had a bowel movement since he has been on milk? He may be constipated. But that would not explain why he is sleeping so much. If the whole deal is that out of normal. I would just take him to the dr and have them figure it out. Cause it could be so many things. Things you can't see and things you wouldn't even think of. And you don't want it getting worse. I wish you luck. I hope they get the little guy figured out and feeling better for the both of you.

OK, glad you called the physician. If he does not call back then get another doctor to see the baby today. It could be your baby is not tolerating whole milk. It sounds like that to me. Could also be he has earache or something else going on. Does he have fever? In any case he is not doing well and I would put him back on formula till you hear from the doctor. If baby is not better real soon then take him to the ER. Do not wait on this one.

My daughter did that a lot but right from birth...she had GERDs , simply, acid reflux. But she had a lot of spitting up and you could tell it was very acidy...thank goodness she grew out of that. Someone already said something about ear infections...My son use to get those, no fever, no other symptoms other than screaming. I wish you lots of luck and patience....but I would definitly take him to the doc. Thats what they're for.

Maybe he has an ear infection without a fever. My son would get those, and besides not eating much, we would not see any other symptoms. We just had to help him feel better (giving him a little tylenol) and wait it out. Good luck!

Maybe he is just going through a growth spurt, where their bones hurt and they can't get comfortable. My daughter did that alot when she was 1, she would cry and her sleep patterns where very unusual. She would hardly eat, she would only eat grapes. So maybe that is what it is.
