i live in henrico county in virginia and my son gets praise on his good manners and all and the teacher writes nice things about him on the report card but he is failing bad he is in the third grade and i was told by the teachers that the school could not help the(kids) with there work. my son has major problem with reading and writing and the teacher stated he needs to go faster when doing his work already they suggest failing him for the year and maybe by next year he would be ready. all my complaints are going unheard i tried calling the school board which they direct me back to my son school principle which is no help. if my son need to fail then fine let it be for a valid reason but to take a good child and not try and find out if there is any problem i think is as bad as leaving a babies to take care of themselves.

call the school psychologist, or the district psychologist. they have a certain amount of days to respond, and provide testing once the request is made...you might have to fill out a request for testing form...make copies of everything you give out. do some research for your state/county on what the laws are regarding educational testing. document any/all phone calls and follow up verbal requests with written requests. don't forget to also call the school superintendent if you need to. i've worked in spec. ed for many years, and raised a special needs child...i've literally had to take the district to court (several times) for failing to provide my son with the educational assistance/tools that were written into his i.e.p. (individualized educational plan). there are also advocacy groups, and parent coordinators through the mental health system, in most counties.
in my experience, school districts can be very non-parent friendly. you may come up against officials who say there is no money for testing your child, etc...they are not above trying to make a parent feel guilty either...don't buy into it. nobody cares about your child like you do, and if you don't push the issue, your child will not get the help he is entitled to. i hope this was helpful...very best of luck to you. you can also go to dr.phil's website to get more ld, a.d.d., adhd, dyslexia, etc. info from dr. frank lawless.

Write a letter to the the Counselor saying you would like your son to be tested for LD`s. They have so many days to do this once they receive your letter. Make sure to keep a copy for yourself. The test results are really tough to understand, but after he test they will call a meeting and give you the results, take a tape recorder with you so you can go back over it later and take notes. Don`t leave the meeting until you completely understand the results.
I have a great group that knows alot about thee testing results and would be happy to help you, send me an e.mail if you would like the name of the group.
My daughter was tested and suppose to get tutoring and extra help. NEVER HAPPENED!!!. she is in 9th grade now and some subjects she is in 5th grade level. She is in Private school now recieving the extra help she needs and doing GREAT.
Public school was letting her fall futher and futher behind.
I say write the letter to the counseler because she will get it to the right person. That person has a title, but I can`t remember the title. They are the ones who do all the testing.

Good Luck

Hi im in high school and when i was the same age as your son i had about the same problem. First i would get a doctor to digonose him with a LD after that the school has to give your son special help and an IEP. Most of the time teachers do not follow your IEP but there are resorce teachers that help enforce it.
Hope i could help..

I'm a little surprised that your school district hasn't asked for your permission to test your child for special services. Special education evaluations and services are covered by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. If you want your child evaluated for a learning disability and eligibility for special education servicres, send your school district special education director a letter asking the school district to evaluate your child.
Reed Martin has a website and a message board for parents of special needs children. It might be worth a look. Good luck!

A 9 year previous shouldn't act like that. an commonplace baby can wipe their butt on the age of 5, e book an appointment with a phycologist right this moment and get her some help. She might have some psychological trauma or a sickness. I wish you and your baby the superb of success.
