I have heard this shower thing before. I washed myself using hot water and a flannel until i got home. Then i boiled normal tap water in a pan with lots of ginger to use as a antiseptic and i had a bath in that. I also washed my hair in the ginger water as I didn't feel clean otherwise. Good luck with the birth.

I took a shower about 2 hours after I gave birth, and it was the best shower I have ever taken in my life. I had to wait only because I had to wait for my epidural to wear off, and then I was moved from Labor and Delivery to Maternity. When I got to Maternity, showering was the first thing I did!!

This is what happened to me, after I gave birth the nurses told me not to take any baths because soapy water and the dirt from my body in the water might go up inside my womb and cause an infection. They highly recommended showers until the bleeding lessen. To clean my vaginal area they told me to wash with iodone and warm water and lay wet naps on a kotex pad. This what I did and I didnt have any problems.

Everyone is different and this is what was told to me to do and I just did it, first baby and all. But go ahead and shower and wash your hair. Best wishes

Clean yourself!!!

Depending on your method of birth there are different suggestions. But none that says, dont clean yourself.

Women that have c-sections are not recommended to take a bath because of the stitches. This also applies, if you had stitches in your vaginal area.

You can definitely take a shower. Just do not have direct water pressure on the area (c-section).

But cleaniness keeps away infection. The last thing you want is to get an infection and become sick right after having a baby.

You can take a shower after giving birth. You will want to--trust me. As for baths however, the only bath I've heard of being okay is a sitz bath a day or two after you've given birth, but some doctors/midwives do some things differently.

Hope this helps.

You can shower. In fact a bath is actually good. Just fill the bottom up with a few inches of water and get it and it will soothe the area. But as or a shower, take one.

I have taken a shower immediately after the birth of both of my children and I am just fine....the doctors even told me it was the best thing to do to keep from getting infections in tears from birth.

You can do either, bath or shower. My nurses in the hospital ran a bath for me. She put dreft soap in it because I tore and they said a bath would clean the area better than a shower and the dreft was very gentle. With my second one, I took a shower in the hospital. You don't want the area to stay unclean for days. That's not good for your health either. I figure if it was bad for me, the nurses would have told me.

You can shower. I think they make you wait until the next day for a shower but I could be wrong. I don't remember that clearly how long it was because I could shower but I was still in the hospital. Baths are not suggested as sitting in dirty water wouldn't do well for your fresh 'wounds'. Plus, if you have stitches, they could get infected more easily in a bath.
