I was thinking of moving my betta in to a 5 gallon tank in the spring with some ghost shrimp and cory cats, but... what if my betta eats the shrimp??? He's eating EVERYTHING in sight now and is jumping out of the water to get food... He's acting CRAZY! What should I do? I want to put him in a 5 gallon with shrimp and cories but... what do you think?

Bettas are only aggressive towards fish that have flowing fins and other bettas.
You can put them with certain types of fish, like the cory cats, certain tetras, and minnows.
I would think that bettas should be able to live with the shrimp, but in a 5 gal. anything could happen. If you want to make sure the shrimp live, upgrade to a 10 gal (available at thrift stores, garage sales, and fish stores for a cheap price), and provide many hiding places.

My betta lives with 6 neon tetras in a 10 gal. it's been like that for about 1 year and i've had no problems.

I agree, get a 10 gallon if you want to do that since just the cories alone (you would need a minimum of 3) is pushing the limit of the tank space and everything else you add can cause stress and aggression.

1st thing to know before you buy that type of fish...Bettas are aggressive fish and tend to eat on the same kind if fish..usually they are called fighting fish i have a crowntail fighting fish and i put him in a bowl...So thing about ur tank, put a glass divider so your other living organisms inside your tank wouldnt be harmed..ok?don't gamble the life of your other pets, remember they are also living organisms which should be treated well and that's why they are called a Pets....

usually betta is an aggressive fish. and usually lives in a very small aquarium the size of a cup of tea. but if you want it to join the betta with your other fish in your new aquarium bring an incubator an put it in alone where he cant interact with other fish.

Duh!! Betas are known to be naturally agressive and carnivouous. That's why you can't put them in a tank with other fish. Shouldn't you have found this out before becoming a pet owner?
