I am having this debate with a friend. We have probably all heard someone say "Oh no, I would break your legs." or something like that when offerd a lap to sit on. But, is it really possible?

Is your answer based on opinion, or do you have evidence or experience to support it?

Only my opinion but if someone weighs 350lbs. it might happen.

If that person is REALLY heavy, he/she just could. I would offer you evidence but I haven't heard of anyone foolish enough to sacrifice their legs to prove this. Just like this theory that says that people who jump off a building, die half way before they reach the ground. Well, I'm still waiting for someone to prove that.

I suspect that the breaking of someones legs would be secondary to any failing furniture...

If you are 15st and you have a 15st "roly-poly-gram" in your lap, then the chair would collapse and you might break a bone when you hit the floor and the "roly-poly-gram" lands too...
