My bunny loves to play with cardboard however recently I've noticed that instead of throwing it around and biting it he is actually eating it. I love my bunny so much and am scared that by eating all that cardboard I am going to kill him! Should I stop giving him cardboard to play with or is it ok?

No, cardboard is fine for rabbits. Rabbits love the cardboard of paper towel and toilet paper. Make sure its not covered in glue like some occasionally are. Someone mentioned giving a towel to the rabbit. That is not the best idea for your rabbit to chew on because they will often ingest the material or threads. If your rabbit does not chew on the towel it is fine.

For other fun toys, try giving a hard plastic cat ball, rattles (could be a hard plastic baby rattle), branches (Apple ONLY), or paper bag. You could fill the paper bag with a favorite treat or hay, then close the bag. This is fun for the rabbit to chew and after they can have a treat.

It should be fine for the most part. Just be very careful about what was actually contained in the cartons. Fruit cartons could have pesticides, etc that have rubbed off to the inside of the carton. Cartons that contain metal parts could have VCI on the indside or some kind of rust preventative that could hurt your rabbit.

The glue that they use on cardboard won't hurt the rabbit. However, do be careful of cardboard that is heavily printed and the ink could be somewhat harmful.

I would recommend putting in a non-treated small piece of pine wood for them to chew on or a small piece of drywall. The drywall won't hurt them. Some breeders use the drywall for rabbits that have sore feet due to it's ability to absorb. Don't ever use treated lumber because it contains arsenic. That's why they don't recommend using treated lumber for making picnic tables anymore.

As far as newspaper is concerned. Newspaper is totally ok to put in with your rabbit provided that the newspaper you use is printed with soy-based ink. Most newspapers use soy-based ink. It will sometimes say so at the top or bottom of the newspaper. You may want to check with your newspaper to be sure. Avoid flyers though. Those are most likely not printed with soy-based ink.

No, Ur bunny is fine eating cardboard as long as it is over 3 months old. The cardboard is good for it grinding down its teeth, It keeps them healthy & stops them getting bored.
If you stopped giving it cardboard it would only chew other things!
Rabbits love attention so if its an outdoor rabbit then try bringing it indoors a couple of times a day for a bit of affection!

Good Luck

Your bunny is fine eating the cardboard. Bunny's also love to tear up old telephone books, it really keeps them busy for hours at a time. I also give mine a towel to play with. They like to get under the towel and chew holes in it, and sleep on it.

Well I just learned that people think it is OK to put newspaper which is full of chemicals in there pets cages so why not let it eat cardboard too?
These chemicals can not shorten the life of your pet to much....

If he is eating all of it I would make it a sometime play item. Otherwise your bun will be fine. Try other things too like phone books, paper bags and wooden parrot toys. http://www.rabbit.org
