some of the lights are supposed to blink (it indicates activity) some are not. You should have a steady power light (always on solid) and some other indicator light that it has connected to the server...(depending on what kind of modem you have it could be labeled sync, cable, dsl, connected etc.)
If you are losing your connection and you have an always on dsl or cable connection then you may be experiencing some synch issues or some program you are running is "disconnecting when connection no longer needed"
check the manufacturers site for your modem and see what the faq's say about the lights and connection issues, if it keeps happening, check with your ISP to see if 1. there are any "outages" and 2. what they say about your dropping connection.

All the buttons need to be solid but one (which will not be lit at all) depending on your connection. First of all make sure that DSL filters are connected to every phone line in the house. If this is taken care of and you still have a problem call your ISP (internet service provider) and find out what is going on. Could be they have newer software that will work or they can find problems on your line to fix. I would put a search into yahoo and find the company that issues your internet service and see if they have help on their site. If that does not work then call them.

It can't find a direct connection to te Internet. Just unplug the little wire on the side of it and plug it back in. Wait about a minute or 2 and it should go back to normal. This may happen 1-10 times a day, so be prepared!
