I must admit television is pathetic compared to the internet (even if you have cable or SKY) Google advertising revenue is already set to Overtake ITV's adveritising revenue over the next 18 months.

Its sad to admit but I used to be the biggest TV freak watching so many programmes like they were going out of fashion...

But now...well I cant remember the last thing I watched on TV (not even X factor)..I spend my time on the internet doing God knows what - but it passes the time..

Its just one addiction to another...they'll soon invent something else to keep us occupied...watch this space [not literally! lol!]

Depends on how the battle for advertising goes. As it stands internet offers programs with much less commercial advertisment. Networks are pushing for more coommericals or to have people pay for access to certain sites. If this happens I don't think most people will switch to TV on the internet versus standard TV, why pay when you can get the three major networks for free.

If they can, at the very least, keep the level of commercials and marketing to present levels then the internet will become a serious threat to TV as generation Y get older and more adept as using the computer as a multimedia vehicle.

All in all I would say that TV will dominate for at least the next twenty years.

Considering "old" tube televisions will be non existent to use here very shortly (no longer will someone be able to use the old antenna, or get free TV) internet is going to be a very big factor in getting TV. Since the internet is not free for the most part. In the United States.
I read this on some web site....cant remember which. All TV's will be digital I think it said by the year 2009? Those with the old style TV will be sent a box to get TV on until they can upgrade there TV (so I read).

The internet is already a serious threat but only for certain generations at this time i.e. the youth and IT saavy. Eventually TV will learn to work with the internet and they will get married and have new babies that we haven't even conceived yet! Note that in the UK NTL and Sky both have braodband providers in their offering, the BBC site is one of the most popular in the world,Channel 4 generate and provide a host of content as well. Start talking convergence!

A serious threat to television! no way the government sees to that! We are not allowed to have a television without a tv licence even if we do not use it or cut the lead off so we can't use it! And yet the government states we can't have a monopoly!!!!

I agree with some others--it is already there. News feeds (video) from Reuters on the Times website, instant news, and if you know where to go, darned good entertainment.
I have my home computer wired to a highly powered amp and speakers... BBC Digital on internet is wicked--music, news and comedy, drama, suspense, and more on BBC7! Soon much will be in MP4 it appears!!!

It already is in a lot of respects! But in order to keep it from becoming more of a threat, we'd have to be penalized for using it. I won't spell out the methods for that since people just love to start rumors, and often rumors become law. Let's just leave it at that, ok? :)

It has already taken over in my house, but it is only restricted by the fact that we do not all possess a Computer.

I believe that when everybody , has their own computer / laptop , the TV will be extinct !

I gave up my TV long ago. Saves the licence fee. The problem with television is that it is too passive.
