Try out the Fashion History books and articles section on Questia - Online Library. It could save you a trip to your local library.

It offers titles such as:
Reforming Women's Fashion, 1850-1920: Politics, Health, and Art
Fashion Foundations: Early Writings on Fashion and Dress
Reconstructing Italian Fashion: America and the Development of the Italian Fashion Industry

Good luck on your project.

I dont blaim you for just Loving all of the old clothing styles of the 19th century......I myself just loved the clothes, in the movie "Gone with the Wind".. Just "FABULOUS!!!!" Wouldn't have minded being from that ara, as well. To where the old Ballroom dresses, and be "Courted" by Gentlemen. And to have your father make all the decisions as to who you courted and all of that .. I guess I have an "Old-spirit" somewhere, inside of me. If I were you, I'd call your local Library.. Just look on Yahoo's yellow pages, and give them a "Jingle" and see if they have any books, or know of anywhere you could purchase one. Theirs always, "Borders" if you have one in your area, or "Hastings" as well, their both bookstores, that sell books, and will even order a particular book or C.D., for you, If you knew the names of them.. Maybe someone at these stores, might even be fascinated as you are, in those same areas, and may guide you to just the right direction.....Good-Luck, to you!

This is a huge site where there are also links. It might be of some help:

It's such a big subject; I suggest you type into your search engine "Indian costume, 19th century", or whichever country you want, and see what it comes up with.

Good luck!
