I want to build my own web site but there seem to be so many different programmes out there all saying they are the best and I wondered if anyone could recommend one they have used and been happy with.

I recommend SiteBuildIt. I used it for my site and found it really easy to use with impressive results.

Not only do you get a good looking site, very reasonably priced, but they also give you loads of info and advice on how to get good rankings with the SEs. I can vouch for this working as in a very short space of time I was on the first page of Google for loads of my keywiords.

Definitely worth looking at as it is good value for money and the support and follow up service is excellent too

If you want to take a look at my experiences in using it then go to this page on my web site:-

I really like DreamWeaver and have been using it for about six years to maintain four different web sites. The ability to make web site wide changes, as well as the ability to change a file name and have it automatically find all of the pages it would affect is very helpful.

My favoured program for Windows is Notepad, and on Linux I use KWrite. All the WYSIWYG editors in the world can't come close!

The best commercial one is defenately Dreamweaver
( http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/ )

If you can't afford it, the best free one is defenately NVU
( http://www.nvu.com/ )

I have been using dreamweaver for years now and I think it is the best, but having tried NVU recently I find it equally good!

Make sure you dont choose something like frontpage because it is known to break all web standards!

good luck!

You can start by learning html and asp. I code with classic asp and asp.net, but I've used php.

you can go to http://www.w3schools.com and start learning both asp and html. That's what I would suggest for beginners.
