I would have a series of small meetings with them, two or three at a time, and ask THEM what it would take to increase production. They probably know their job better then you do. They know their job better then we do. Make certain that you take their concerns and suggestions seriously and give them due consideration.

It is very possible that what is in the way is you or something you have decided, and you must be willing to make changes to achieve a change. Harley-Davidson motorcycles went through this and created a beautiful model of development.

I believe that the most important thing to consider is that your employees are adults, not children at camp. This job is how they feed their children and they spend more time with you and each other then they do their families. Respect that.

The reason you meet with 2 or 3 at a time is that you get to hear from the quiet ones, who might have an answer but are too shy to speak. The voice of the loud one is usually known to all.

First of all, compliment them at every opportunity that you can find!

An Empolyee will work harder for a boss that they "like"... Mean bosses dont get the work output as a friendly boss.

Though, you have to differentiate between employees and employer, but you can still be friendly towards them and it wont cost you a thing and you will have a happier bunch, and they will go out of thier way for you. Also, throw them a "bone" every so often, a picnic in the Summer, or a Turkey at Christmas or something like that.. Those little things help promote good relations between management and employees...

I wish you well..

it extremely is gonna sound very cliche, yet stable morale makes a great difference. in case you push with over-the-good quotas or threaten their jobs in the event that they dont circulate speedier, you will get much less out of your workers, not extra. you will get extra production in the experience that your workers are happy. take care of them with admire and attention and that they are going to be prepared to place out for you.

Incentives. There are some types of incentive: money (bonuses), holiday trips, or get them together and discuss this with them if it's possible.
