On telly every Saturday afternoon. Really good entertainment with genuine characters, sadly many of them now long gone.
These guys would have put the current lot to shame.
Mick McManus
Steve Logan
Les Kellett
Alan Dennison
"Bomber" Pat Roach
George Kidd
The Royal Brothers.

What say others?

I remember watching these guys as a child on ITV's World of Sport. My dad - bless him - religiously watched it every week. The whole house stopped at 4pm and after he would check the footie scores with good ole dickie Davies!
I can add Rollerball Rocco and Marty Jones to your list. As well as Fit Finlay, Dynamite Kid, Kendo Nagasaki and Jim Breaks.
Rocco and Jones would certainly give the WWE guys a run for the money. Thanks for bringing back some happy memories mate. Cheers!

Please.

Whilst there is no doubt some of the old World Of Sport stuff was good, excellent even (Marc Rollerball Rocco, Steve Regal, Robbie Brookside, Dynamite Kid etc), some of those guys were a disgrace. Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks were 2 of the most terrible and boring workers I've ever seen. I mean honestly, are you telling me you would rather watch those 2 oafs over the likes of Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, KENTA, CM Punk and AJ Styles?

British wrestling today, talent wise, is a much better place than 20/30 years ago. It's just lacking the coverage and exposure it used to have.

Yes I remember it. Great saturday entertainment. I can even remember a bout that a pro show jumper was fighting, someone called Harvey Smith. He was the bloke who gave a two finger salute at a meeting attended by the queen. I also remember a John Naylor, Kendo Nagasaki, Jacky Pallo ect. Your right they would put the whole lot to shame. They were as good as an entertainer as they were grapplers.

Jackie Pallow often partnered Mick McManus as a tag team against the Royal brothers (I can only remember one of their names; Bert).
I loved Billy Two Rivers as a child. He claimed to be a native American but I'm now certain he wasn't. I suspect the same applies to a wrestler who claimed to be from Tonga or Fiji; I forget which. He wore flowered shorts and if he was in a half nelson would run around the ring dragging his opponent until he gave up. Then there was Kenyo Nagasaki......
I'm reckon it was all well choreographed but it was much more fun than the US stuff

sure, sure I do, and many times i'm saddened by the shown truth that once a pay-in step with-view they today commence hyping the subsequent one. yet that comes for the shown truth that there is a pay-in step with-view each and each month (now and again 2 a month) and imaginative crew has to have some thanks to promote the shape. decrease back contained in the days of the former WWF there replaced into purely The Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam and Survivor series, (WCW/NWA ran pay-in step with-perspectives for the duration of alternating months) and with a 2-3 month hollow in between there replaced into extra time to develop a storyline even as nonetheless focusing on the wrestling exciting ingredient and for those "feuds" that necessary that little extra something there replaced into Saturday nighttime significant journey (conflict of the Champions for WCW).

The glory days of wrestling as me and my dad call it,you've got to admit that it was a lot better then the wrestling on TV today.I'm glad they still show British wrestling on TWC(the wrestling channel/world of sport)so i can see the likes of Les Kellett who was my personal favorite,Big Daddy,Giant Haystacks,Mick McManus who only lost twice and many more.I wish British wrestling was still good today but company's like 1PW:UK haven't made it very far.
