My broadband is with Be Unlimited. It is advertised as an "up to 24 meg" service but I rarely get anything like that. The online speed tests suggest I am getting anything from 4-6 megs. I've recently moved house and, as a general rule, the 24 meg connection I have now is little faster than the 8 meg connection I had with BT at my old place.

I know it largely depends how far you are away from your BT exchange but I live fairly centrally in London so it shouldn't be too far away.

I'd be interested to know what people's download speeds are, especially if you're also on Be's 24 meg services, and whether I'm just unlucky or whether my speeds are fairly typical. I never really expected to get 24 meg but I did hope for something closer to 10-12 rather than 4-6.

Thanks!

You have to keep in mind their little advertising ploy: "Up to ...."

None of the providers ever sustain a speed anywhere close to the "up to" speed they advertise.

I'd die to get 4-6 consistantly. I'm with Verizon (DSL) and they advertised "up to" 3M download speeds. I've been running tests several times daily and am seeing as low as 200K and typically as high as 900K. I see speed spurts of 1M+ and have had two readings over 2M but only for a short period.

I'm sorry I opted to go for the higher Verizon "up to" speed and should have stayed with Adelphia high speed cable which was consistantly at 1.5M or better.

And just for the record, my pc is well maintained. I have automatic defrag program, I use msconfig, firewall (physical & software), antivirus, and two spyware programs invoked. So a virus or pc problems isn't an issue for me. However, I am running IE7 and am not sure if that truly has any detrimental speed effect as yet. I have heard all the conjecture, but haven't seen any real data on it yet.

Good luck.

Hi You internet speed is already optimal. If you want to increase some more, you need to check whether windows update is enabled or antivirus update is being downloaded or any other application like chat messenger, browsing etc is open. Close all applications except your torrent app. You may get slight difference. Note :- 256 kbps is too small bandwidth to download moviews etc. It was be used only for browsing. Better go for 2048 kbps data plans.
