I like using Google's "define:" operator in the search which will dredge up definitions from a number of sources. In Google's search field type "define:word-I-am-looking-for" (for example, define:Google)

And for more modern expressions, I've used "Urban Dictionary" (http://www.urbandictionary.com/).
