how do i install a hardrive?

i have an old computer running out of memmory, i have a hardrive, but don't know exactly how to install it

Type of computer? (PC/Mac) HD type (SCSI, IDE, ATA, etc.)

How many devices presently on the buss and any empty device slots? (if you want to add it internally)

External connection types? (USB, Firewire, SCSI, IDE, ATA via a PCI slot card, etc.)
