An empty (blank) CD/DVD is just that. There is nothing for the computer to read. The burning software is what connects the blank to the computer for writing. Read your burning software manual and it should walk you through the procedure. (assuming you have burning software installed?)

If you just wanna make a data DVD for storage, you can just format the DVD disk first, go to My Computer and then whatever the drive letter your DVD drive is assigned (maybe E??). Then, drop the file you wanna save in there. That way, you can save the movies on the DVD and watch them whenever you like on your computer.

But if you wanna burn DVDs to play the movie on a stand alone DVD player, then, you need a DVD burning soft installed on your computer (such as Nero).
