Like most foods, wine does have calories. The sweeter wines - like dessert and ice wines - have a higher calorie count than the drier wines.

"The calories in a 4 ounce glass of wine ranges from about 80 to 100 calories. Lighter wines tend to have fewer calories than heavier wines. Some wines are higher in carbohydrates than others due to their residual sugars. For example, a dry Sauvignon Blanc may have 2 grams of carbohydrate where as a very sweet dessert wine could have up to 12 grams. Wine is fat free and contains no cholesterol."

OMG!! Yes!! Wine is so high in calories and sugar. But it tastes soooo good. My boyfriend turned me into a wine snob.. In 1 year i gained 15 pounds! Drinking wine 3 to 5 times a week was the only lifestyle change I made. Now, I limit my wine consumption and when I know it is on the menu i double my treadmill time that day!! If your are going to have wine, treat yourself to the best you can afford...It makes the extra calories so worth it!
