The companies are making a massive profit and you can pay around £2 less for the same product. I just wondered why people think the pricey ones do a better job! I'm a nurse and it has always baffled me!

Because people don't read the ingredients and if they did they wolud realise that in most case an own brand is just as good and 4 times cheaper, or perhaps it's a kind of snobbery.

I was adivised to buy a cheaper brand at the chemist once instead of Neurofen. They even showed me that they had the same amount of the active painkilling ingredient but they just didn't work quick enough for me. Neurofen is pretty instant when I take it. The cheaper ones left me with a dull headache for hours. Is there something different in the way they work rather than the actual active ingredients perhaps?

I know it sounds stupid, but I find the brand names do work faster for me. I have been buying the cheap ones for about a year because I thought the same thing as you, but they often take over an hour to take effect for me. So I tried the brand name ones again and they have been working within 20-30 minutes. Maybe it's just a placebo effect - but as yet I don't know how to overcome that so I'll keep taking the brand ones.

Because a lot of people do not know that the drugs are exactly the same. The only difference is that the drug companies spend a fortune to package and advertise it, whereas the British Pharmaceutical do not.

No idea why people buy painkillers at all when acupressure points work just as effecitvely. To stop someone's headache simply squeeze the solid flesh between their thumb and finger on their left hand until it hurts, then release everso slightly and begin gently massaging it. Headache goes away a lot more swiftly and without the need for painkillers.

Well....one reason could be the country in question doesn't provide Paracetamol.

When I first went to the USA in 2000, I assumed they had Paracetamol.....so I left mine at home. shouldn't have done that, argghhhhhh....my friends didn't even know what Paracetamol was.

With marketing and advertising these companies could sell wrapped ice to eskimoes.
