It started Friday morning. I was going to go to the ER for it but it kind of stopped huring for a little bit after a good nights sleep. I bought an eye patch for it, but even that didn't seem to help because seeing bright light with my right eye even seemed to hurt my left eye. I will be going to the optometrist on Monday to get it looked at. My question is... what is this? Also, my left eyes pupil is dialated while the right is normal.

I guess an add on question: Should I just go to the ER... or is it safe to wait to see the specialist?

You should go to the ER. It could be a simple conjunctivitis, but then it better not be taken for granted. Some types of conjunctivitis can affect the cornea too leading to corneal opacities and vision problems later on. It is your eye! Please be serious about it, visit the ER!

I am against trying self medication for the eye!

That sounds really weird and they are gonna give you a field vision test which I bet comes out screwy. You really should be at the ER now for this. Eye stuff never means something minor.

If you go to the ER, they are gonna call the eye doc on call, he is gonna come in and look at you today --- you should always go to the ER with eye problems like that right away, or call your general physician cause he can sometimes get you in with a specialist right away.

You have conjunctivitis (pinkeye). Did you have a sore throat or cold recently? An old remedy is to scald milk, let it cool until just warm, and use it to wash the eye. That was before we had antibiotics. The eye feels like you have sand in it, doesn't it? You can go to any doctor to have it treated. Whether you wait depends on how much it bothers you. If the emergency room will cost you an arm and a leg, you might want to tough it out.

Sounds like conjunctivitis, which is contagious by the way. Wash you hands a lot. Even though that's what it sounds like to me, it could be any number of things, all of which include treatment with an antibiotic. Don't miss that appointment. Good luck.

Probably conjuntivitis. Antibiotic eyedrops will cure it in one or two days.
