Hours and hours of amusement to create something that looked sh*t, and fell apart the moment you touched it.
Oh, the joys of Christmas.

The glue on the paper tasted horrible, what about those bloody horrible paper hats that you had to make at school for the christmas party? By the way, whoever nicked the spoon with the brown wool around the handle,I want it back!

Ah you know, i never made those, but i do know what you mean by all the silly stuff we used to spend hours doing as kids, but you know what, i wouldnt want to take even a minute of that those times back, becuz to me, its just a part of that..imaginary magic we create for ourselves when we´re kids...and honestly i kinda miss that magic sometimes...it may seem pointless to us now, but cmon you remember what it was like for us then..it was like one of those cool fun christmasy things we couldnt wait to do..right? And as far as getting kids to do that now...well im sure the younger generations are still into doing that. Time changes things, maybe its not making paper chains anymore, but im sure another activity has taken its place now. =)

Yes, I think they were fun to do and looked quite good for a short while. Very shortly though, one after the other the peskie things would come unstuck and every five minutes or so the chains would come flopping down.
I do think they looked effective - but needed better adhesive.

I liked doing that. What made it fun was doing it as a group and getting to decorate the chains anyway we wanted. We would then pass it on to another class to decorate and add onto.

LOL....yes, we had to do that in Kindergarden...it was fun back then. (probably cuz we didn't have to do it for hours and hours like you and your brother had to do)
BTW : we didn't have to lick....those weren't invented yet....we had to use glue. (and not the modern one, LOL, but the one you had to paste on with a small brush)

I liked doing that and my niece and nephew also enjoyed it, and I bet most kids still enjoy it, because it was simple and fun and pretty and they could show off their handy work

To your first question
Yes
and to your second
Yes
Kids these days need to realise that hard work goes in to Xmas decorations.
This task will help them to appreciate this.
