just put it in the CD-ROM drive, then ignore the autorun interface. open My Computer, look for your optical drive, then right-click & select explore. that allows you to view the CD's directory.

if you're able to browse the Net, try downloading advanced windows care (freeware from iobit.com), install then run. from the software, you'll be able to see if you have any problems with your o/s.

i also found an ebook on mininova.org regarding troubleshooting your pc. you might want to check that resource.

good luck.

well, the windows xp home disk, only contains operating system not the office.
usually the pc comes with three types of disks

Operating system/recovery
Driver recovery
Aaplication recovery

so you can put the application disk and see if any of the application is there which you can use. but if you are going to reinstall any of those, your old data is gone.

office cd is different from these three, you need to buy it separetly.

Don't worry, just putting the disc in won't do anything. It will open a window and ask you want you want to do.
It won't, though, fix your MS Office! For that you'll need the MS Office disc!

dont! microsoft no longer put microsoft office onto the xp software. unless u have the disks to back up your major programs (microsoft office) dont mess around with the xp software. the xp dist contain what you see on your computer when you start your computer for the first time. use microsoft.com and then the knowedge base to find a solution to your problem with microsoft office. i have found it very useful.
