It is a very good book. Very interesting in that parts of the story one could relate to--just typical universal things you experience growing up--making friends, bullies, learning disabilities, etc.--but on the other hand so unique. The way the book describes the harshness of war-time Germany, the hunger, the cold, the uncertainty of it all. The thing that struck me most about the novel was its depiction of friendship between Liesel and Max. In particular the stories Max wrote for her using the painted-over pages of Mein Kampf.

I read it a couple weeks ago. Couldn't put it down. In fact, I liked it so much I bought the audio version for a friend who has long commutes just so he could hear it.
