Well . . . cost of living is a little high. But somewhat cheaper than US/UK for certain goods.
Cars and house is expensive. A simple japanese 1.6 l car may cost something like USD 60K.
Private flat is about half a million. If it is landed property, it is about a mil and above.
However, as for clean, good tasty food, you may get it for USD2. anyother things is about cheaper as well.
Schools? Easy. No need to go thru back door. But must be able to speak English. Almost everyone here is educated in English.
Public transport? Rather advance. Almost all public bus in air-con. Taxi is flat rate. From one point to the other extreme point of singapore will cost you something like USD20? But you will almost not travel that far. Train is fast, clean, cheap, safe and smooth.
As for the crime rate, almost zero. Just a few petty crime in between. If there is any major crime, almost committed by foreigners.
One advice, cominghere to stay, one need to be law abiding. Just follow, and never ask why. The government believe they know best.
Cheers,

Great place for expat living. Modern city where everything works! The quality of the work force is 2nd to none (being Singaporean and have worked overseas). No language barrier, almost everyone speaks English and Mandarin. Costs of living on the high side, but it's quality living and I'm sure your expat package take the costs of living into considerations. Great place too to raise kids - education system and schools of world class standards. Low crime rate, no drugs, no guns. Travelling around is a breeze - excellent public transport system, including the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit). The country has much to offer in terms of eating, shopping and entertainment. You'll love it here.

Where are you from? Housing is good, there are a lot of expat condominiums available. The prices, I would consider to be a bit expensive. The cost of living is quite high compared to other countries. It is comparable to Japan, though.
Expat schools are great, from what I've seen. There are specific schools that cater to different cultures, e.g. French schools, Japanese schools. Shouldn't be hard to get into. If you're willing, you can always immerse yourself in local schools. We are usually welcoming.
Public transport's great. You can get almost anywhere in Singapore by buses. The train is clean and fast as well. If you consider taxis to be a form of public transport, they are plentiful, or maybe, rampant. Have fun!

As a Singaporean, the transportation, housing and other related stuff here are good.
But for the education part... ... it is VERY difficult and competitive. Are they hard to get into? Depends on your previous education.
