best places to check our sites of top clubs such as Ministry of Sound ....
Their website is: www.ministryofsound.co.uk - look in the 'downloads' section where you can find classics, albums and recommended tracks.
also look at whats big in the charts. remember to know exactly what your audience want...not all 18-25 year olds like the same kind of music...best to have a mix of what's big at the moment so you can get all sorts of genres of music in (pop, dance, hiphop, indie etc)
here's another link you could try:
http://www.onlylyrics.com/ - this site will let you find artists of different genres that are in the latest charts
hope this was a help! :-)

I agree with She's answer, there's still a lot of varied music out there, just as it was in "our day", haha. Eg The London radio station XFm plays a different selection to Radio 1, but it all comes under the bracket of - ahem - "contemporary". You could try (if you can stand it) listening to them, or downloading their playlists, that'll give you an idea of what's current.
Genres are another problem - the 'styles' have become so diluted, so fragmented, and there're lots of different names for what is essentially the same type of music. I heard Pete Tong say on the radio on Friday, "Hip House is making a comeback", and I was thinking, Really? I must have missed it the first time round! Haha.
Anyway good luck, I hope some of this helps. :)

I am much too old to give you useful answers but I think the young would only benefit from listening to songs from previous decades. The other days someone asked if the Arctic Monkeys are the new Beatles. How can they ever be comparable to the Fab Four? There are so many great songs from the sixties and the seventies which we are still listening to and singing along to but how many songs of today will be remembered in a year's time?
I am not sure what young people like today. I guess it is the Arctic Monkeys, Shakira, Beyonce...because these are the names I see all the time.

Get some song books from the book shop to show you what modern singers people will recognise. There is a good audition songs for singers range. It includes Kylie Minogue, All Saints, Robbie Williams, Christina Aguillara, Holly Valance, Shakira, Avril Lavigne, Destiny's Child, Atomic Kitten, Britney Spears, Maddona. I have a couple of these books, email me if you want the ISBN no.

depends on the enviroment you are doing your job...there is a big difference between keeping a pub crowd on their toes and say butlins or a club...are you singing or doing a dj stint or what...radio???there is a huge difference...i would say tho be fairly varied...some people go for chart music whereas others prefer indie,metal,etc...look at you target audience maybe ask them to give you requests this is a great way to know what your audience actually wants to hear...or do a poll on here...for that age range asking 'what music do you listen to?'...hope this helps...;0)

YOU WILL SEE IT ONCE YOU GO TO THE CD SECTION. ITS A 2006 DANCE MUSIC, R,N,B AND ALL THAT YOU WANT.
GOOD LUCK, NEXT TIME YOU ARE A DJ, MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW EVERY THING HAPPENING AROUND, AND NOT WAITING TO BE TOLD.

There are alot of online radio stations. Most of these radio stations post a playlist. So what ever you're looking for you can probably find a radio station that caters to that and check out their playlists.Go to a few of them print the list and cross reference them to see whats hott everywhere. Hope that can help you.
