Unfortunately the terrorism will not end in our lifetime. I am over 50 now and in our early life in 1960s we would hear almost on monthly basis that one airplane is hijacked and taken to Cuba. There were jokes/cartoons in newspaper saying chances are that any US citizen flying from US for any destination would land up at Havana Airport or something like that.

In the meantime, there were many state sponsored terrorism starting right after the World War-II like in Palestine, Kashmir and a few other places. The Red Army Factions (RAF) of Japan in collaboration with Bader Meinhoff (I may be wrong about the names or spellings) of Germany and some of their sympathizers in France and UK were the known as 'terrorists'.

The PLO plane-hijacking were news in 1960s and 1970s followed by the bloody incident happened in Munich Germany where several Israeli athletes were killed during the Olympic Games. In retaliation, the Israeli commandoes attacked Entebbe Airport in Uganda to get hold of the terrorists at the cost of some of the passengers’ lives.

Thereafter, came the IRA terrorism in early 1970s in the UK and Northern Ireland which shook our belief that the 'whites' (Caucasians) can not be terrorists! The Soviet attack on Afghanistan in early 1970s were mass scale incitement for the present days' terrorists, when the USA, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia trained Arabs and other denomination of Muslim Jihadists to fight the Russians and later achieving success, but at a huge cost by way of instilling the confidence in the mind of the Jihadists that they can defeat anybody in the world with their guerilla warfare techniques learned in Afghanistan, and the Al-Qaeda was born.

In recent times, the WTC-I, Oklahoma and then WTC-II, Bali Bombing and some such incidents in South East Asia shook the world's complacency in feeling secured in their own territory.

The attack on Afghanistan during US President Bill Clinton's time to destroy Al-Qaeda training camps done half-heartedly as well as removal of Saddam Hussein and invasion of Iraq by present US President George W. Bush along with UK PM Tony Blair led “Coalition Forces” on wrong information and wrong premise were like freeing the Jihadists and Al-Qaeda genes from the dormant life inside the bottle.

Rest is history. Hope that some miracle would happen when we would be living simple life like those were prevailing before World War-1, of course with present days progress that we have in Science and Technology!

Wish we all live in terrorism free world!

Terrorism is nothing new, so I'm sure it will go on for ever. We just have to live with it, and not allow ourselves to be hijacked by extremists of either side. Look, Osama wanted a war between Islam and the West - instead of taking his time to find Osama and put him on trial, Bush and Blair gave him exactly what he wanted, a war across the world. Smart.

By the way, did you hear about the religious terrorists that tried to blow up the British Parliament? That was in 1605, the terrorists were Catholics, and all Catholics at the time were seen as traitors, loyal to the Pope and to Spain and France, rather than to UK. The terrorists were caught and publically tortured to death. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpowder_Plot

No, I don't think terrorism will ever end because if you think about how many people have been killed over it now, there will always be someone or a group of people who lost a loved one who will want revenge.

Today, terrorism refers to Islamist terror. It will end when decent nations use their military power to defeat the terrorists overwhelmingly, as happens in any war. Take WW II, where the Allied victory over the Nazis and over Japan was so clear and overwhelming that the enemies had no choice but to sue for peace on the terms of the Allied forces.

Will people ever stop judging people and learn to be equals? I think terrorism will not end until this happens. Terroism is exactly this, people not being able to forgive, and learn from the past and just creating violence.
